Downtown Clean Up

Downtown Clean Up

A clean up of the downtown area of Binghamton was organized in October 2012 by Binghamton University students. Delta Sigma Phi saw this as an excellent opportunity to give back to the local community of Binghamton as it is important to realize the impact that we have as commuting students on the locals that live in the city of Binghamton, New York. It is vital that the local community does not see the student body as inconsiderate outsiders and hopefully by participating in the clean up, Delta Sigma Phi was able to contribute to bridge the gap between the locals and the students a little.

Anti-hazing Rally

During the Fall of 2012, Greek life at Binghamton University was going through a tough time. An article had recently been published in the New York Times putting a spotlight on the shortcomings of Greek life at Binghamton University and this put a lot of pressure on Binghamton University officials to prove their critics wrong.

As a result of this, several Greek organizations were investigated for hazing based on rumors and allegations. For organizations that these rumors and allegations were even slightly true, very harsh repercussions were instigated. However, not all Greek organizations at Binghamton University fit the stereotype that the media seemed to portray. Delta Sigma Phi was one of these organizations. When fellow Greeks banded together to show their disapproval of hazing in September 2012, Delta Sigma Phi eagerly participated in the rally against hazing. This rally was held on campus at the Binghamton University Spine near the Glenn G. Bartle library entrance.
